The Weird, Strange, Odd, Bizarre and Not So Normal Day of Keith

The Weird, Strange, Odd, Bizarre and Not So Normal Day of Keith is a 2D, role playing game that centres on Keith Harley, an IT worker who lives a seemingly normal life, until things start getting more and more surreal. The game controls much like any top-down RPG, in which players have various environments they get to explore, along with characters and props they can interact with. Instead of turn based battles however, players are required to complete themed minigame compilations whenever they interact with an event. The scenarios these events take place in are surreal and comical, in contrast to the otherwise ordinary settings the game takes place in. These scenarios may include minigames in which the player must fight a giant chicken dressed as a knight or escape a 3D maze, in order to avoid an annoying co-worker.

I helped with the development of this game during my fourth year of studies at Swinburne University. I worked alongside my team, creating 2D digital art assets for characters, environments, props and minigames. I was also involved with the pre-production stage of development, in which I helped to brainstorm ideas for gameplay mechanics. I took a lot of inspiration from surrealist comedies I was into at the time, when coming up with ideas for minigame scenarios. During pre-production, I also created a series of initial concept sketches, as well as engage in group discussions for feedback. I later helped out with exhibiting and showcasing the game at PAX 2022.
